Prick test
A prick test is carried out on patients with asthma, rhinitis and sometimes nettle rash to determine what they are allergic to. A drop of allergen extract is placed on the skin which is then pricked with a small needle so that the substance can enter the skin. Patients are allergic if the skin produces a bump. Prick tests can be carried out using substances such as pollen, fur, mites, bee and wasp stings, latex and food.
